Floating aquatic feed with moderate protein and fat content can be produced for warm water species like tilapia, eels, and catfish via extruding process. Floating aquatic feed extruders are, in fact, screwed pumps. Feed mix is forced through the floating aquatic feed extruder, affected by high heat and pressure, and is subjected to shear forces. Single-screw and twin-screw extruders are suitable for floating feed production and operation costs optimization.
It is very important for aquaculture farmers to assure that aquatic animals get all the feed they need both in quantity and quality. Actually, the aquatic feed accounts for approximately 60% of the whole production cost. That is why the aquaculture farmers are in need of spending a lot of time to determine the right feed.
Depending on the growth period and species, a wide range of feed sizes can be obtained from the extruder die.
