Full-Fat Soybean Production Line
Processed Soybeans: Full-Fat Soybeans
Processed soybeans, commonly known as full-fat soybeans, are highly valuable in animal and poultry nutrition due to their significant energy and protein content. Extensive scientific and practical research has been conducted on the nutritional value and feeding applications of processed soybeans.
Raw soybeans contain anti-nutritional factors that make them unsuitable for monogastric animals such as poultry when used without appropriate processing. However, heat treatment can effectively reduce or deactivate these compounds, converting processed soybeans (full-fat soybeans) into a valuable source of both energy and protein for these animals.
For ruminants, unprocessed soybeans may be used under certain conditions; however, several important factors must be considered. The presence of urease in raw soybeans can promote the breakdown of urea before it reaches the animal and the rumen microorganisms. Heat treatment inactivates this enzyme and helps eliminate the associated problems. In addition, heat treatment can improve soybean shelf life by inactivating lipase and reducing fat oxidation. This process can also increase the proportion of rumen-undegradable protein (RUP) in soybeans without compromising protein quality or adversely affecting its digestibility and absorption by the animal.
In recent years, numerous studies have emphasized the critical role of rumen-undegradable protein (RUP) in the nutrition of fresh and high-producing dairy cows. RUP is the fraction of dietary protein that escapes degradation by rumen microorganisms and is subsequently digested and absorbed in the small intestine. A significant proportion of the amino acids required by the animal is supplied through this pathway.
Fresh and high-producing dairy cows may require approximately 35–40% RUP, depending on dietary requirements and amino acid balance. Heat-treated soybeans, which can provide a high proportion of rumen-undegradable protein, can therefore serve as a nutritionally valuable and cost-effective source of amino acids for dairy cattle while supporting feed quality and safety.
In addition to protein, soybeans contain fat with a favorable fatty-acid profile, providing a concentrated and economically valuable source of dietary energy for livestock.
Processed soybeans, as a desirable feed ingredient rich in energy, protein—particularly rumen-undegradable protein—omega-6 fatty acids, and natural antioxidants, have gained an important position in animal and poultry nutrition.
Raw soybeans typically contain approximately 18–20% fat, making them a concentrated source of energy. However, due to the presence of urease and other anti-nutritional factors, ruminants may not fully benefit from raw soybeans without appropriate processing. Heat treatment inactivates urease and helps mitigate the associated nutritional concerns. The process can also reduce lipase activity, helping limit fat degradation, improve storage stability, and increase the proportion of rumen-undegradable protein without compromising protein structure or its digestibility and absorption.
